Commissions from start to finish
I will create an original painting of your loved ones in an imagined or real setting of your choice. The artwork will be created using acrylic paint on stretched canvas which is then varnished. I also take commissions for House Portraits and Garden Portraits. An initial meeting is always preferable but the whole process can be undertaken by email, working from your own photographs.
What will happen at the first meeting?
Our first meeting can be done in person, by phone, or email. Important things for us to discuss will be setting, mood, weather and colours as well as who/what will be included in the painting. It is also helpful to know if any special landmarks, items of clothing, favourite items or toys need to be represented too. The more information I have, the better!
What reference material will I need?
If you decide to go ahead, I will need a few photos. These can be hard copies or images sent via email. The photos are used for reference only and don’t need to represent how you want the finished painting to be. For example, I can work my magic to transform a winter photo into a summer painting by changing weather conditions and clothing or I can put all the members of a family into one painting even if you only have individual photos. My imagination will do the rest!
What materials do I use?
I always work with the highest quality acrylic paints on pre-stretched box canvas. Flat canvas panels are also available depending on your requirements. The finished commission will be supplied unframed unless you wish me to get this done for you. There will be an extra charge for this service.
What’s the painting process and time-scale?
I begin by sketching out a composition on paper in pencil until I’m satisfied with it. At this point you are welcome to approve it and I can make any necessary changes. I am then ready to start painting. How long will it take? I really don’t know. Some paintings are a breeze and others can be slightly more challenging but I will keep you informed of progress every step of the way and any deadline we have agreed will be met.
Once the painting is complete, I can take it to a local Fine Art printer to have the image scanned if requested. This means you will be able to order high quality signed prints of your commission at any point in the future. When the scan has been completed I will apply a final layer of UV varnish. This protects your painting from sun damage and airborne pollutants. Once the varnish layer is dry, your painting is finished.
A deposit will be required before the painting is started.
The price does not include framing.
Travel to the client is priced separately.
